Off leash areas in the Blue Mountains
The Companion Animal Act 1998 and the Local Government Area Act 1993 requires each council to provide an Off Leash area for the exercising of dogs. The Blue Mountains Council has provided 5 Off Leash Areas. Each of these areas have signs outlining the conditions of use, a map showing the boundaries the off leash area which are also identified by green tipped markers, and each area provides a dog litter bin.
The areas within The Blue Mountains are:
New Summerhayes Park – Hawkesbury Road, Winmalee
The area beside the tennis courts and running through to Bunnal Avenue
Hours of use: Mondays to Fridays 6am – 9pm
Weekends and Public Holidays 6am – 8.30am and 5.30pm – 9pm
Lennox Bridge – Mitchell’s Pass, Glenbrook
The area is a closed loop on the south side of the bridge.
Hours of use: Mondays to Sundays
Times: 24hours
Bulls Camp – Great Western Highway, Woodford
The open grassed area.
Hours of use: Monday to Sunday
Times: 24 hours
Track Beside Leura Oval – corner of Lone Pine Ave and Gordon Road, Leura
Gates at either end of a dirt track designate the off leash area.
Hours of use: Monday to Sunday
Times: 5am – 9pm
Old Airstrip at Blackheath – Hat Hill Road, Blackheath
The area is within the perimeter of the runway and is bounded by Robb Avenue.
Hours of use: Monday to Sunday 24 hours.
Frank Walford Park – Katoomba
Catalina Raceway on the old pit garage area inside the race circuit.
Hours of use: Monday to Sunday
Times: 5:00am to 9:00pm
Each of the Dog Off Leash Exercise Areas have signs which outline the conditions of use and include a map of the area. The boundaries of the map are identified by green tipped markers and dog litter bins are provided at each site.
